I placed an emergency Sephora order within minutes, and dropped by my local store the very next day to see if they had anything left. Thankfully, they still had a fair amount of stock (not the case merely five days later) and I was able to pick up a few things I had been waffling on. To my mind, the eyeshadow palettes are the real superstars of the line, but the eyeliners are nothing to sniff at either.
These are the four Eye Dream Hyperliners that I picked up:
Top to bottom: Puppeteer, Locket Book, Spark of Envy, Sparkling Ammunition |
These liners are so very creamy, a dream to apply. (Er, pun not intended.) Due to their ultra-soft texture they can be a bit of a pain to sharpen, and getting a fine point is tricky - but they are so rich and easy to apply that those minor issues are worth overlooking.
One thing I did find odd was how long they remained tacky to the touch. With Urban Decay's 24/7 eyeliners and the Tarte's SmolderEYES liners (reviewed here), I find that the pencil sets very quickly to a silky-dry finish, and I was expecting the same thing with these. Not so - there is a fair amount of play time where the liner is still smudgable. This is great if you want to keep working your eye makeup for a desired effect, less great if you need to be out the door immediately and are otherwise prone to smearing your liner. That said, once it sets, it stays put for most of the day. When tested, these did not smear on me at all, but they did start to fade towards the end of day, about 9-10 hours into wearing them. Not amazing, but quite good considering my oily eyelids.
The colors were all lovely, with Puppeteer being especially nice for an everyday, slightly plum-toned brown. The pigmentation on Spark of Envy was the best, while Sparkling Ammunition and Locket Book both went on a bit less even, possibly due to the glitter content. Compared to these swatches, there was no perceptible difference when applied to the eyelid, however.

Availability: Largely sold-out at Sephora, online and in stores, but word is that the brand will be releasing their collection under the auspices of their own website. Price was 18$ CAD (11$ on sale).
Pros: Super-creamy, delightfully easy application. Great range of colors, including creams, shimmers and glitters. Did not smudge or smear on me.
Cons: Longer "tackiness" period might increase the risk of initial smearing if you rub your eyes, pigmentation can vary across shades, though not in a noticeable way once applied.
(I purchased these items at Sephora.)
AHAHAHA I'm laughing so hard hahaha! I'll have to buy your hubby a beer to explain my thinking of that I saved him money! Thanks for the shout out love. :) And I'm glad you like them! I really like these eyeliners a lot. And for the price they were-can't go wrong!
ReplyDeleteHa! I don't think he understands that form of girl logic. (I keep thinking of this female stand-up comic, who had this whole routine about GWPs. It was mind-boggling to him.)
Delete"All haulage is to be blamed on you, should the hubby ask." <---- hilarious! ;) The hyperliners look really beautiful. Don't own any, i think Spark of Envy was left on the Sephora website (U.S. last time I checked). I was able to purchase Sparklicity Pure in Nude, a couple of jewel eye palettes, (Dreamy, Magical), Sparklicity gloss in Kosmonaut, Parade, and Nouveau nude, the dollskin cheek palatte, and Neopolitan Lane blush! Was able to pick them up online a couple of weeks back when I heard about it (Temptalias
ReplyDelete's blog). My very first Tarina Tarantino product I ever used/purchased was the eye dream highlight duo in Jasper and Agate. The shadows were so soft and creamy as well, that I fell in love. Was so happy when this sale came on. Was able to get all of the above for so much less! I'm thinking of getting the Emerald pretty palette, but I still don't know. I feel I already own that version of those shadows in other palettes. Thank you for the swatches/reviews! They're great as usual. Enjoy your hyperliners!!!!!
That sounds like an amazing haul, Judith! I almost got the Dollskin Palette, but only half of the shades appealed to me. How are you liking it?
DeleteI did get the Emerald palette, I couldn't resist. The eyeshadows were just SO gorgeous. I just wish the palette itself was a tad smaller. But hey, at that price I won't complaint!
Several weeks ago, a source had hinted that Tarina Tarantino products were going to be pulled from Sephora's shelves and that the stock would go on sale, so I patiently waited and as soon as I got the word, I headed to check everything out. Here's the thing: while the prices are excellent and I've heard many good things about this line, I can't say that anything made me go "WOW - gotta have it". Maybe it's just me and I'm over-saturated? In any case, my new mantra is that unless it totally knocks my socks off, I won't buy - no matter how good a deal. Still, I can't deny how attractive so many of the compacts and shades I saw that day, really are! I may come to regret this decision, but thank God there's always another pretty new bauble that will come along to distract me....!! Enjoy your "haulage", Maggie!
ReplyDeleteOh, I know how you feel about over-saturation. I think re-organizing my collection this past week has pushed me to that point - well, ALMOST. :P
DeleteI do agree with you that a large part of the brand, while nice, is not so extraordinary that it warrants stockpiling. The eyeshadow palettes, however, are the one thing I would recommend to anyone who is waffling. The texture and pigmentation on these is fantastic. And personally I like the ultra-feminine and faintly princessy packaging. Not my usual speed, but it does appeal.
The dollskin palette is great. The blush colors are subtle, yet really brighten up the face. They are similar in color, two of which are a bit warmer. I think you would enjoy it (if you still have access to available ones!) especially great for travel! You're tempting me with the Emerald palette! It does look a bit big (packaging). I don't know, I'm running out of places to store all the makeup!
ReplyDeleteWowI'd never heard of these eyeliners until recently and probably wouldn't have given them much notice if I saw them in stores (I have WAY too many eyeliners already), but I remember a while back Temptalia said these are one of her favorites. I didn't end up purchasing any during the sale, but maybe in the future. The colors are really pretty
